General

Is corn plotting to rule the world?

Michael Pollan, prize winning journalist, real food advocate and author of The Omnivore"s Dilemma raises an intriguing hypothesis:

What if human consciousness isn"t the be-all and end-all of Darwinism? What if we are all just pawns in corn"s clever strategy game to rule the Earth?

Only by understanding ecosystems from a plant"s perspective can we better understand the complexity of our food web.

In this fascinating video he champions Permaculture as a solution to many of the problems of modern food.

Michelle Obama digs for victory

The Obama"s have made a huge political statement by digging up some of the White House lawn and sowing what will become an organic vegetable garden. The total costs - excluding White House lacky labour - are just \$200.

Rob Hopkins offers a lighthearted Permaculture critique on their efforts so far!

What we"re reading...

Micael Pollan: In Defense of Food: An Eater"s Manifesto ISBN13: 978-0143114963
Food. There"s plenty of it around, and we all love to eat it. So why should anyone need to defend it? Because most of what we"re consuming today is not food, and how we"re consuming it -- in the car, in front of the TV, and increasingly alone -- is not really eating. Instead of food, we"re consuming "edible foodlike substances" -- no longer the products of nature but of food science...

He is a strong advocate of IPA work in supporting small scale organic farming as well as awareness raising around the destructive influences of the "Green Revolution".

The Prince is famously outspoken on environmental subjects, to read a recent interview with him in the Telegraph on the subject of GM click here.
