Course summary

You might be surprised to find that someone who promotes healthy foods is running a chocolate workshop. However you will be pleasantly surprised as I was that this chocolate is actually really good for you. The chocolate I use in this workshop is in its raw form and comes from the cacao bean which grows on cacao trees in the jungles of South America.

There is nothing else quite like raw chocolate and it was so revered by the ancient Mayan people that it was even used as a form of money at one time. It is a sensuous experience, delightful, passionate and exciting to all the senses.

Raw chocolate is an amazing source of nutrients containing over 300 different chemical compounds which all have beneficial properties. Many of these are normally destroyed by the usual processing techniques. Raw chocolate is a rich source of the B vitamins, magnesium, antioxidants and the brain chemicals that make us feel good. It contains seven times the amount of antioxidants than once it has been processed!

This is a fun workshop where I will explain some of the benefits of using raw chocolate and why it is so good for you. We will then look at some other foods that have a natural affinity with raw chocolate and I will show you how easy it is to make your own raw chocolates bars and also have some fun making some other yummy chocolate goodies with it. We will then have the difficult task of tasting them all and deciding which ones we like the best and would like to go home and start making.

Introduction – History of raw chocolate and its many benefits

Demonstration – Showing how to make some simple, yet delicious chocolate goodies

Practical session – have a go at making your own chocolates which you can then take home with you.

Sampling – Sample everything that is made and familiarise yourself with some other super foods that also go well with raw chocolate.
