Course summary

A one day traditional willow basket weaving workshop in which we will be using a variety of natural willows to make a shallow round fruit or bread basket. Suitable for beginners and those who’d like a refresher.

A one day willow basket weaving workshop in traditional ‘stake and strand’ basket making, using prepared basketry willow plus some grown at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre on the wetland system to add colour and texture. You will learn to make a basket with a Portcullis centre, based on the Irish potato scibs, with waling for the sides and a rod border.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners but if you’ve made a basket before and would like a refresher day this is a good opportunity. If you’d like to go on and develop your skills further you may also be interested in the workshop: Willow Weaving – Exploring Round work which runs on the following consecutive two days.

Children aged 9+ are welcome, with an accompanying adult.

All tools and materials provided. If you have your own sharp secateurs and a knife, please bring them along. Please wear warm old clothing.
