Course summary

A one day course to learn the basics of ‘stake and strand’ basketry whilst making a useful waste paper basket. The waste paper basket is one of the most under valued, but commonly used and handy baskets for any room of the house!

You will make a traditional base and weave the sides using the ‘3 rod wale’ and ‘French randing’ and finish with a decorative track border. There will be various naturally coloured willow from which you can choose to make your own unique basket.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners but if you’ve made a basket before and would like a refresher day this is a great opportunity. If you’d like to go on and develop your skills further you may also be interested in the following workshops: Linen / Laundry Basket, Round Basket and Rush Hats which run on the following days.

Children aged 12+ are welcome, with an accompanying adult.

All tools and materials provided. If you have your own sharp secateurs and a knife, please bring them along. Please wear warm old clothing. Places are limited to eight participants per event and must be booked in advance.
