Post: ‘Grow Your Community’ Project Co-ordinator - freelance

Rate: £90 per day (7.5 hours)

Hours: Total 7.5 hours per week. These can split into two half days - 
one of which should be Thursday morning.
Additional hours may be offered, including occasional evenings or weekends

Duration: Initially 26 weeks September 2019 to March 2020

Base: Sudbury and Great Cornard parks and green spaces with
hot desk/ home working for administration (to be agreed)

Reporting to: ActivGardens Development Manager

ActivLives seeks a Project Co-ordinator to lead a community horticulture project, Grow Your Community, based in Sudbury and Great Cornard, in west Suffolk.
This exciting project would suit a dynamic, creative, well-organised person, who will enjoy working with local people to lead volunteering/ training/ work experience in parks and public green spaces. There may also be opportunities to work with young people in local schools as part of our Learning and Skills Programme.
You must be able to motivate and work sensitively with a broad range of people, particularly those who are “hard to reach” or experiencing disadvantage, with the main outcomes of helping people develop skills and confidence, improve their health and well-being, and contribute to their local environment/ community.
You will have a sound knowledge of horticulture, combined with a creative/ imaginative approach to community growing – understanding its potential to connect local people, stakeholders and business.
A love of working outdoors, sometimes in challenging conditions, is essential. You will ideally have knowledge of environmental conservation, and the challenges and opportunities involved in balancing the needs of the natural world with parks/ garden maintenance.
You will have good planning and organisations skills and will be confident in networking and approaching local leaders and business to make things happen. Part of your job may involve promoting the project, with the possibility of occasional weekend and evening work. Competent IT skills are essential and being able to use social media as a means to drive interest in the project would be of benefit.
