40 hours per week
20,000 – 22,000 per annum
(Dependant on experience and qualifications)
We are looking for a full-time horticulturist to join the estate team to help facilitate the establishment and maintenance of a variety of projects including establishing a market garden. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in horticulture and have a horticulture qualification of level 2 or above.
The estate team’s primary responsibility is regenerating the landscape and its ecosystem services across the Combe Grove estate by employing regenerative agriculture practices. Our secondary function is to educate, facilitate, inform and empower people and community into positive action for land stewardship.
About the role
The role will be varied with opportunities to learn new skills as we have woodland to manage and in the future livestock to care for. We need a Team Leader who has experience and skills in leading small teams with an aptitude for mentorship and transferring their skills and knowledge.
As one of three Land Steward Team Leaders you will work with the estate manager to fulfil the estate team’s responsibilities by leading Land Stewards, apprentices and volunteers on day to day maintenance tasks and projects. This includes a market garden including microgreen production, woodland management, agroforestry, mushroom cultivation, harvesting wild food, animal husbandry and conserving, establishing and maintaining wildlife habitat. Secondary roles will be to contribute towards creating a species database, survey work, social media posts, helping and running workshops, coordinating volunteers and acting as a responsible role model for apprentices.
About Combe Grove
In March 2017 the Elmhurst Foundation, a Bath-based charity, became the new guardians of Combe Grove Manor on the edge of Combe Down. This beautiful Georgian Manor house with hotel and spa facilities is surrounded by 64 acres of land including over 30 acres of deciduous woodland. The grounds of Combe Grove are designated under the following planning categories: Designated green belt, Cotswold’s AONB, World Heritage Site and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The Elmhurst Foundation is evolving the Combe Grove Estate into a destination for health and wellbeing, employing and training local apprentices in each area of the business and forging strong links with the local community.
