Participants will learn how to construct the oven from builder’s sand, clay, wood shavings and bricks. Lunch is included with this course. THE COURSE WILL GIVE YOU Understanding of the process of making a clay oven. Experience of the techniques needed to construct a clay oven. Knowledge on how to use a clay oven to cook pizza. A risk assessment and guidance notes will be provided to help any education providers who wish to run this as an activity with one of their groups. THE COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR Anyone wishing to build their own oven in their back garden, school or project site. WHAT TO BRING - Old working clothes to get dirty in! - Stout footwear/wellies - Camera - Notebook This course takes place outdoors, with marquees set up for shelter on rainy days. ABOUT THE TUTOR Sara has built clay ovens in back gardens and with school groups in school grounds. She remembers the first pizza she tried that was cooked in a clay oven as the best pizza she has ever eaten. Sara is an experienced Forest School Practitioner, a biologist by training (her PhD is in forest entomology) and is an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning. She is also a volunteer Director of the Forest School Association. Sara says: "There is something about the simplicity of cooking in a clay oven, the wood, the fire, fresh air and good company that makes for a relaxed and enjoyable experience."
