Course summary

This course will be the usual twelve days, spread over 2025 and into spring 2026. The programme is designed to help you deal with the complexities of modern life, whether you are in an urban, sub-urban setting or rural location.

The venue is at Todmorden College which has recently been saved from demolition by a local community organisation. It has excellent public transport links with direct connections from both Manchester and Leeds.

The course is open to all, regardless of any previous experience or literacy level. We will follow the international guidelines to cover the course syllabus in full. The course will be led by Angus Soutar who is accredited by the Permaculture Research Institute to teach the international PDC.

This is a joint venture with the School for Sustainable Living and Angus will be supported by a team of experienced local permaculture practitioners. The course content has a wide and flexible application, not only in home-based settings but also for those wishing to apply permaculture design within their business or career. We aim to provide you with the tools to enhance and facilitate community-based projects of all kinds, including Transition Towns and Incredible Edible initiatives. Participants have access to extensive online materials that support the individual course days.

Please see our Northern School Website for more details.
