About me

I first encountered permaculture design in Zimbabwe in 1991 and completed my PDC in 1995 at Centre for Alternative Technology Machynlleth, with Mike Feingold, Chris Dixon and Peter Harper. Since then I have I convened and taught on over 40 PDC's and a bit of specialsim in our work. I work as part of the Sector39 permaculture limited, based in Wales in the borders region. I am a forest gardener, community activist, teacher with a very broad experience base .
I have a long standing involvement in housing cooperatives and ethical finance and community development. I worked for the Permaculture Association, Centre for Alternative Technology, RISC and now Cwm Harry where I worked developing and promoting community gardens, teaching forest gardening and permaculture as well small scale enterprise development.

Since 2015 I have been self employed developing Sector39, we work either very locally in our community in Wales, with both schools, community and housing co-ops and in East Africa where are developing a specialism in supporting farmers, teachers an community leaders to incorporate and communicate permaculture design concepts in a culturally relevant way. in 2018 we ran a 7 month project in Bidibidi refugee settlement in Northern Uganda, working with South Sudanese tribes people who have been displaced by internal and inter-tribal conflict.

We are now working to establish a S39 permaculture academy that will keep track of and facilitate peer to peer learning between people who have completed training with us and our other African training partners. We are continuing to develop local responses to the unfolding climate and ecological emergency by working with our Town council, volunteer groups and schools in our community in North Powys.
